Pregnancy is a wonderful thing, yet it can be a challenging time in a woman's life. Yoga can be a great way to support a healthy pregnancy, both physically and emotionally. I wish that I knew it myself 24 years ago when I was pregnant myself as I believe that it would have helped me cope with it much better. However, I didn't find yoga at that time as my yoga journey started much later (Please read about my personal yoga journey on my about us page). Here's how yoga can contribute to a healthy pregnancy and what types of yoga are best for expectant mothers.
Yoga Can Reduce Stress and Anxiety
Pregnancy can bring a range of emotions, and yoga can help to reduce stress and anxiety. Controlled breathing, meditation, and physical postures can help expectant mothers to calm the mind and reduce tension in the body.
Yoga Improves Sleep
Pregnancy can make it difficult to get a good night's sleep, but yoga can help. Certain yoga poses and breathing exercises can help to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality.
Yoga Will Make You Stronger and More Flexible for Your Pregnancy
As the body changes during pregnancy, yoga can help to maintain strength and flexibility. Gentle yoga poses and stretching can help expectant mothers to prepare their bodies for labor and delivery, while also reducing the risk of injury.
Yoga Can Help in Alleviating Discomforts Associated with Pregnancy
Yoga can help to relieve common discomforts during pregnancy, such as back pain, nausea, and constipation. Certain yoga poses and breathing techniques can help to alleviate these symptoms, allowing expectant mothers to feel more comfortable and at ease.
Yoga can promote bonding with your Baby
Promotes bonding with baby: Yoga can also help expectant mothers to bond with their babies. Certain yoga poses, such as pelvic tilts and hip openers, can help to improve blood flow to the uterus, providing the baby with oxygen and nutrients.
What Yoga Style is Best For Pregnancy?
When it comes to what types of yoga are best for expectant mothers, prenatal yoga is a great option. Prenatal yoga is specifically designed for pregnant women and focuses on poses and breathing exercises that are safe and beneficial during pregnancy. This type of yoga is typically taught by a qualified instructor who has specialized training in prenatal yoga.
I don't teach prenatal yoga in groups as part of my yoga classes, however, I do teach prenatal yoga privately in my shala in Panglao or in your home around Panglao or Tagbilaran. If you have pregnant friends in similar stages of pregnancy we could form a small private group of prenatal yoga. Please chat with me and we'll schedule our first class together.
